Activities at our Nursing and Residential Homes

Music
Singers, musicians and entertainers visit each of our homes regularly and where possible residents are taken to concerts, cinema and local shows. We like to encourage 'sing-a-longs' and weekly music quizzes such as 'Name that Tune'. We hold musical mornings or afternoons so that residents can participate in the playing of percussion or instruments of their choice.

Arts and Crafts
We offer all types of art and craft activities ranging from water colour painting, collage making with a variety of materials, stencil or rubber stamp work, glass, canvas or fabric painting and appilique or decoupage. We also like to encourage residents to choose what they would like to make and we have regular sewing or 'stitch-ins' creating bags, brooches and purses to name but a few items.

Poetry
Many of our residents enjoy the experience of reading or being read to. Each home has a resource library of books and poetry consisting of everything from Pam Ayres to Wordsworth.

Reminiscence
Memories and reminiscence sessions are encouraged and enjoyed by our residents. Each home has a large resource library of books, postcards, laminated photographs, magazine articles and advertisements to encourage participation and stimulate discussion around various interesting topics.

Game and Quizzes
As well as encouraging social interaction and mental stimulation, games and quizzes can be really great fun. Carpet bowls, skittles and quoits are played regularly for gentle exercise, as well as word games, crosswords and quizzes of all kinds to encourage mental activity.
We also offer a variety of card games jigsaw puzzles, dominoes, snakes and ladders, draughts and ludo, as well as good old bingo.

Interests and Life Skills
We believe that the lives of our residents should mirror the interests they had prior to coming into our care. Our Activities Co-ordinators help provide activities linked to our residents particular interests or life experiences and encourage the formulation of a 'Life-Book' for each resident. These books really help in getting to know people and finding out what makes them happy, their likes and dislikes, where they have come from, family, interests and much more. We find that familiar activities such as the Life-Book, when experiences in a new environment can greatly help with the settling in process.

Pamper Day
These personal care sessions can include a range of services including hand massages, manicures, reflexology, foot-spas or a wash and set in the in-house hair salons. They also help to create a lovely feeling of well being for our residents.
